Welcome to Beyond the Bay's 2007/2008 Beyond the Bay Film Series. Now in its ninth season, Beyond the Bay offers the best of newest International and independent American films.
Beyond the Bay presents EIGHT films, September-April.
Beyond the Bay offers the very best of the newest International and American films: films whose characters have complex motivations; films that present provocative ideas; and films that are innovative in their structure and cinematography.
One film is shown each month from September to April. Screenings are on Sunday at 3:00 & 6:00 PM, Monday at 6:00 PM, and Tuesday at 6:00 PM.

The Series Films
Once (September)
The story is simple; a Dublin street-musician writes his own songs, and has a favorite he wishes he could record. He needs cash and some inspiration. He gets the latter from a girl who stops to hear him play and sing. Simple, yet magical. Click for more info.

Away from Her (October)
Enjoy flawless acting by a superb cast that includes Julie Christie. This brilliant film creates a sensitive portrayal, at once unflinching and yet reassuring, of an intelligent couple with an almost perfect life, who encounter the wife's approaching Alzheimer's disease. Click for more info.

Offside (January)
These girls love soccer and long to see a live World Cup match. The problem is, women aren't allowed in the stadium. Iranian women are delicate flowers, who have to be protected from the rowdy behavior of the male fans. The solution - disguise themselves as boys. Let the fun begin! Click for more info.

Bamako (February)
It's the global trial of the century (even if it's a mock trial). The plaintiff is the African nation. Standing accused are the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. The location is a multi-family courtyard in Bamako, the capital city of Mali. Listening in are the residents. Maybe you're the jury. Click for more info.

Vitus (March)
A charming coming-of-age story of a child prodigy resisting the plans of his micro-managing mother in order to realize his own plans for himself. Click for more info.

4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days (April)
The last days of the Ceausescu regime form the background for the efforts of a young woman and her plucky friend to resolve a problem (See the title) in an environment of predatory people demanding soul-destroying compromises in order to achieve passage through their small but strategic areas of power.
